Dear UCI community,

We are writing to announce the launch of a new UCI Police Department Data Dashboard, furthering our commitment to transparency and accountability. This dynamic dashboard is a significant step in improving data collection and management to enhance the assessment and evaluation of the efficacies and practices of the UCIPD. Updated monthly, available data includes statistics related to police stops and arrests, use of force, and weapons-drawn incidents, as well as crime statistics. As we build on the foundation of the dashboard, please let us know how we can continuously improve reporting—we welcome your suggestions.

This work aligns with the implementation of the Public Safety Advisory Committee's (PSAC) Recommendations for the Transformation of Public Safety in the UCI Community, the recently released UC Community Safety Plan, as well as adherence to California’s Assembly Bill #953 (AB-953), known as the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA). This bill requires all CA state law enforcement agencies to “collect perceived demographic and other detailed data regarding pedestrian and traffic stops.” UCIPD began reporting this data to the California Justice Department in July 2021, well ahead of the April 1, 2023 requirement.

UCIPD will continue to partner with the community it serves with the goal of providing the highest quality of public safety and professional policing services to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. Please do not hesitate to offer feedback and suggestions to inclusion@uci.edu, psac@uci.edu, or police@uci.edu.

Sincerely,
