Subject: UCI Police Department Accreditation Review by IACLEA
|
To the UC Irvine community: A team of assessors from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) will visit the UC Irvine Police Department (UCIPD) on Sunday, July 14, 2024 to examine all aspects of the department including policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification that the UC Irvine Police Department meets IACLEA’s accreditation standards is part of the process to achieve accreditation and meet Guideline 4: Accountability and Independent Oversight as outlined in the UC Community Safety Plan. All faculty, staff, and students – as well as members of the public – are encouraged to offer comments about UCIPD for this assessment by calling 949-294-6792 between the hours of 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15. IACLEA assessors will answer the phone during this time; however, callers may experience wait times and have the option to leave a voice recording if they cannot get through on the first call. Telephone comments must address the agency’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s Accreditation Standards Manual. To submit written comments about the police department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation, email Jerry Murphy at jmurphy@iaclea.org. I encourage all members of the UC Irvine campus community to offer comments on this accreditation process. Sincerely, Mary
Lou D. Ortiz
About IACLEA Accreditation The IACLEA assessment team is composed of experienced campus law enforcement professionals from around the country. The assessors (Tamara McCollough, Accreditation Manager, Indiana State University and Allison Jean, Accreditation Manager, University of New Hampshire) will review written materials, interview department staff, and inspect the facilities where compliance can be witnessed. Once the assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report back to IACLEA, who will decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status. The police department must comply with 227 primary and 496 bulleted standards in order to achieve accredited status. The accreditation ensures the department meets 21st Century policing practices and is prepared to be a valuable catalyst in the pursuit of delivering new and innovative services to the community that the department serves. Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. This message was sent to faculty, staff, and students. If you are a manager who supervises UC Irvine employees without email access, please circulate this information to all.
